Solution: Time Machine Time Machine is Apple’s software to back up your Mac, and it comes with every Mac. All you need is a separate storage device, or a MacOS Server, to back up to. Time Machine keeps a backup of everything you create on your Mac. In this case, you should perform the following steps: Select Apple menu – System Preferences – Time Machine. Select Backup Disk option. Select an external hard drive that you attempt using (listed above) and click the Use Disk option. To ensure the security of your data, click Add or Remove Backup.
How do I go back in time?
If you're referring to Time Machine, you have to set it up first. Did you do that?

Also, is there a virus/spam remover program that is good on a mac?
Anti-virus software is not needed unless you want to be able to detect Windows malware (which can't affect your Mac, unless you run Windows on it.) In that case, use ClamXav -- nothing else.
The built-in Mail application has spam filtering, if you find that useful.
Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail > Enable junk mail filtering

Back To My Mac Replacement
(This segment is not that much related to the actual problem)
Here's the thing: I was watching a podcast the other day about Time Machine, and the guy suggested excluding the virtual machine folder if you have one, and I happen to have one, so I went to the Time Machine preferences and did that.
I started thinking that really should take advantage of Time Machine, so I decided to try it out. I went to the downloads folder, and clicked The TM button. It did the whole transition thing (I mean going from desktop to TM mode). Then I tried clicking the arrows... nothing was happening, I tried going back in time by clicking the date manually... nothing. It was acting like there wasn't any backup folders or something, even though I have at least three weeks worth of backups on my External HD.
I tried different folders, restarting, ejecting and mounting the HD, permissions... Nothing. Here's how the TM mode looks like when I try to restore (notice the timeline):
